1. The objective of the Ranking System is to allow the local sailors to compare performance against others and to provide an automatic and transparent system of selection. Yachting Association of India will use the ranking as the basic criteria to invite deserving sailors to the National Squad. The ranking list shall henceforth be promulgated as on 01 Jan and 01 Jul each year after updating the results of ranking events held during the period.
2. Sailors need to compete in at least one race of the regatta to be awarded points (i.e. a score other than a DNC). Sailors who do not compete in a Ranking Regatta will be awarded zero point. For a regatta with 75 entries, the first placing will be awarded 75 points; the second placing 74 points; the third placing 73 points and so forth, with the last place awarded 01 point. A sailor not competing in the regatta will be awarded 0 (Zero) points. Foreign sailors’ results, if any, will not be excluded from the computation of ranking points.
3. For those sailors on overseas regattas/training commitment deputed by the YAI during the ranking regatta, points will be awarded accordingly to them based on their current ranking. For example, if the sailor’s ranking is 2nd just before his overseas trip, he would be awarded similar points, awarded to the sailor who finished second in that particular regatta.
4. If a sailor (s) is injured during a YAI approved ranking regatta/training camp/overseas regatta whilst racing/training, points will be awarded accordingly to them based on their current ranking. For example, if the sailor’s ranking is 2nd just before his injury, he would be awarded similar points, awarded to the sailor who finished second in that particular regatta.
5. Ranking will be generated by adding the scores obtained in the last four ranking regattas with one discard. In the present case only last three ranking regattas have been considered as not enough ranking regattas were held in the year 2017. The method will provide us with a moving average reflecting the sailors’ current performances.
