L&T YAI JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2018 -RESULTS

The L&T YAI Junior National Sailing Championship came to a close today. The wind condition at Chennai seas throughout this event varied from 6 to 12 knots .

Tamil Nadu sailors Navyn/Neelanand & Chitresh/Aniket took the laurels getting the Gold and Silver respectively in the 420 class while Binoob & Akhil from Trishna SC, Karnataka won bronze. Asian Games medalist Harshita Tomar comfortably clinched the Gold and Tamil Nadu’s ace sailor Nithya Balachander with a Silver in the Laser 4.7 class Girls category. In the Laser 4.7 Boys it was again Madhya pradesh’s Ram Milan plucking the gold with silver and bronze going to Hemant Nagi Reddy of TSC and Gowtham K of Yacht Club Hyd respectively.

In the Laser Radial boys, Goving Bairagi & Satish Yadav, of NSS took the Gold and Silver while Rishab Nayar of Yacht Club Hyd took the bronze. There was no surprise in the Laser Radial girls where Ramya Saravanan of Maharashtra bagged the Gold beating the boys in the combined races.

The optimist category had 48 participants and all the medals in the Boys category were swept by the Trishna SC sailors S Vijay Kumar, Chunnu Kumar and Siva Pujan. The optimist girls was won by Uma Chouhan of NSS Bhopal while the Silver was won by Rikita Dangi also of NSS while the bronze going to Sanchita Pant of RBYC Maharashtra. The novice fleet comprising of boys and girls usually in the age group of 8 to 12 years was won by Venkatesh t, Ramdas S, & Pradeep in the Boys category while Ravalli P, Vaishnavi V & Vidyanshi M won the girls honours.

Classes 29er skiff gold was won by Suruvarapu Gagan/Abhishek, while NSS Ashish /Alankar took the silver and Tamilnadu’s Jayalakshmi/Ashwin won the bronze.

RS One which is a windsurfing class is one of the most colourful class and was won by Russell Lobo of Goa Yacht Assn while silver and bronze went sathiya or TSC and Rahul of INWTC Goa.

Interestingly, the leads seemed to be spread between many states implying the growing attraction to this sport. The progress of Trishna Sailing Club in a short span of time seemed impressive with most medals in the championship.

The cream of the sailors are now awaiting the start of the India International Regatta which starts in Chennai on 1st Jan where more than 11 nations are expected to participate.
