World No.49 Ramachandran Mahesh won a silver medal for India in Match Racing at the 15th Asian Sailing Championship in Malaysia. He went down 3-0 to World No. 203 Jeremy Koo of Malaysia in the finals. In the semifinals Mahesh beat Malaysia’s second best team skippered by Mohd Masyuri. Masyuri won the first two matches, however Mahesh and his team put up a brilliant performance to regain their position by winning the next three matches to bring the final score to 3-2 to advance into the finals. Singapore’s Maximillian Soh finished third overall. A total of 4 teams from 3 countries took part in the Match Racing event.
The Asian Sailing Championships saw a strong performance from the Optimist sailors, and this rise gives a great hope for the future. Vishnu Sarvanan finished 6th overall whilst Vishnu Sujeesh finished in the 13th place amongst 20 boys from 10 nations. Amongst the 22 girls from 11 nations, Ruqayya Nasrulla finished in the 8th position, a position that we have never before achieved, whilst Zahabiya the youngest competitor of the Optimist Girls fleet finished in the 20th place overall.
