Qualification Pathway
50% of the entry quota in each event has already qualified from those best ranked NOCs at the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships held in Santander, Spain.
The remaining places in each event shall be qualified from the 2015 Class World Championship and in a series of Continental Qualification Events sanctioned by ISAF, to finish by 1 June 2016 at the latest.
The Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) has today announced that the ISAF has confirmed Continental Qualification Events in the Qualification Pathway will be held in Asia. The ISAF Sailing World Cup at Qingdao China in September 2015 will be the Continental qualifier in 470 (Men and Women), Finn (Men) and the Mixed Multihull Nacra.
The ASAF Laser, 49er and RSX combined Classes Championships at Abu Dhabi during March 15-20, 2016 will be the Continental qualifier in Laser (Standard), Laser (Radial), 49er (Men), 49er FX (Women) and RSX (Men and Women).
This decision of the ISAF is an opportunity to develop sailing around the world and reflects the IOC Qualification System Principles. Key requirements of these Principles are to ensure the participation of the best athletes and ensure universality through continental representation.
